The Last Accident

Red Sky in the Morning, Sailor take warning. Red sky at night, Sailor delight.
That's how the old ditty used to go, when my mom would tell it to me. At the time, we lived on the San Francisco Bay, and although there are fishers there, there isn't the same urgency to it as there is here on the upper tip of California, where there are fishing boats dominating the marinas, and we hope for delights for the Sailors. We have some storms here that can be pretty dangerous, so when I saw this red sky over the Pacific Ocean (at night) I felt not just awe at the beauty of it but relief for my neighbors who have to go out on the ocean to make their living fishing. Posted by Picasa

High Tide in Eureka. These little birds are collectively called Peeps, they're actually really small sandpipers. Here, so many in repose, a good thing. They sleep as they wait for the tide to recede.
Sleep well, little birds. Let no sharp taloned predator swoop from the sky and fly you into panic.
