Sew What? Say What?

Some people collect sewing machines, some people fix sewing machines. Some people collect sewing machines so they can fix sewing machines.

Keeping a Low Profile

Yes, it looks a lot like just rocks, but if you try, you can pick out some of the peeps as they wait for the tide to recede so they can feed. Blending in is a survival tactic, as these little birds are favorites for some of the predatory birds. One time I was looking at some of these little birds who were resting on an abandoned concrete block near the shore on the bay. Along came a little hunting bird, swooped down, and carried one off in its talons. The rest shrieked and flew off in their characteristic evasive flight pattern.

So from the birds we learn that it can be good to keep a low profile, lest the predators eat us. How this applies to humanity, I'll leave to your imagination. Posted by Picasa

Ray, over on Wefixit suggested that I get out and photograph birds more often. It was a good idea, Ray. I tend to get caught up in my work, and do nothing else. Meanwhile, I'm living in a migratory and bird breeding hot spot, where you will see some of these babies only once in a while. These rock sandpipers, or peeps, as I call them, are usually seen in the summer. These little guys were sunning and taking a snooze. They can't very well get down and feed when the water is lapping up onto the rocks. Posted by Picasa

Sculpture Growing in the Garden

My back yard is looking better, but it serves the dual purpose of garden and sunlit workshop. Here it's being used for carving a garden sculpture. I wandered down there with my camera to take a picture of it, a work in progress.
It is amazing that the shape of these sculptures is so carefully carved out.

Peaceful Process

There are times when I wish I could just sit in a garden, on a chair like this, and nestle up to the flowers.

This is in a garden not far from my house. There's huge red poppies standing as tall as I do. I was eye level with this one when I decided to take the picture. There were others towering overhead.

My neighbor is a talented gardener, and his garden has a profusion of wonderful plants. Season after season it delights me as I go past. I strive to do something half as nice, but so far I haven't made it. I've too many weeds, and too little time to pull them. But we'll just say it's a work in progress. Posted by Picasa
